Paper plates are paper containers made from white cardboard made from chemical wood pulp, pressed using a coiling machine. They resemble traditional porcelain plates in shape but are lighter. Primarily used for serving solid foods such as Western dishes, bread, and cakes, they are unsuitable for holding foods with liquids due to their material properties. Their production involves a multi-layered structure of coated white cardboard, including layers of bleached chemical wood pulp, deinked newsprint, and waste paper, using a double-layer process of base and top coating. As disposable paper containers, paper plates are biodegradable and recyclable in food packaging. Some products achieve leak-proof, insulating, and microwave-safe functions through improved barrier materials.

The disposable paper plate industry has seen continuous demand growth since 2020, while the quantity has remained stable. Industry technology is moving towards green and environmentally friendly directions, including the use of unbleached corrugated cardboard, seamless edge designs, and separable film structures. Simultaneously, increased production automation is driving capacity expansion. The expansion of the global paper container market is driving the application of paper plates, and environmental policies are promoting their increasing penetration in the takeout and fast food sectors.
